Bangaramma has been living with her husband, two sons and a daughter in Jagdevpur mandal for the last 20 years and they were residing at a rented house. They were a migrate family from Nalgonda district. Their primary occupation is street vending of bangles, fancy items and children toys. She roams village to village to sell their items.
As her business does not requires any cap ;al investment but much of working capital. After the migrations credit was the biggest thing for them. As they don't know many of them in these place. They have the option of taking credit from money lenders, who's used to charge exorbitant interest rates (say 60%) and insisted in collateral security or to depend on very few known persons/relatives. It was also a costlier affair. At that time she joined PEACE promoted community based Micro Finance programme. The objective of that programme was to improve the access to credit for the rural masses. The programme was quite simple it relied on the principle "Self Help". Every Women member who joins the programme has to save some amount of money per month (say Rs.l per day i.e.Rs.30/- per month). After a certain period, when any member required money/credit, she was paid the amount in the form of loan which to be paid in easy installments with an interest decided by the community members itself.
Bangaramma took loans to the time of 2,000/-, 3000/-, 5000/-, 5000/-, 10000/-, 40000/- since she joined. She used to invest that amount in her business. With those loans she improved the business and bought rickshaw (Four wheeler). Now she roams from village to village to sell the bangles, ladies fancy items and toys. And her husband also sells bangles on the rickshaw in Jagdevpur and in Jathara's. Now they are running a small Kiranam and General shop in their house premises apart from bangles business.
